Before scaling, connect spend to actual orders and contribution after product, shipping, payment and expected return costs. Look at qualified traffic, product interest, checkout completion, average order value, repeat buying and customer support issues together. A dashboard is useful only when each figure is defined and the events are reliable.

Start with one truthful funnel
Record visits by source, product views, add-to-carts, checkout starts, purchases, gross sales and refunds. Make sure test orders are excluded and purchases are not double-counted across tools. Shopify's reports guidance explains how store data can be examined; attribution views in ad platforms may differ from your order ledger.
Join demand with economics
A campaign can generate many orders while losing money after product cost, shipping, fees, returns and advertising. Use contribution per order and break-even ROAS to estimate whether additional paid traffic is supportable. Average order value can help, but not if a bigger basket brings disproportionately higher costs or returns.
Diagnose the bottleneck before raising spend
Low relevant visits suggest a distribution or creative problem. Product views with little cart activity suggest offer, page, price or trust questions. Checkout abandonment may point to unexpected delivery cost, payment friction or a technical fault. Orders with unhappy customers point to fulfillment, not a media-buying solution. Inspect a small sample of real sessions and support messages before declaring causation from one metric.
Reconcile before making the scale decision
Take an illustrative seven-day period: the ad platform attributes 12 purchases, the store records 10 paid orders, one is a staff test and two were refunded. That leaves seven retained customer orders, not 12 reliable new customers. The systems may use different attribution windows, so do not assume the difference is fraud or a broken pixel. Inspect order IDs, timestamps and repeat customers. Then calculate revenue and variable costs on the same retained-order set. If records cannot be reconciled, fix measurement before increasing the budget.
Do not publish a sales-dashboard screenshot as client proof unless it is real, representative and used with permission. For your own operation, keep a simple weekly ledger with the source of each number and a note about missing data. The decision is not “did revenue rise?” but “did incremental orders contribute enough to justify the next increment of risk?”
Before increasing spend, reconcile ad-platform purchases to store orders and calculate contribution after variable costs and refunds for the same period.
